eSAAMS v 3.0 Launch

Counterpoint has enhanced its successful eSAAMS software with the launch of Version 3.0.

eSAAMS, the assessment system for recording work and achievements within the practical ‘arts’ areas of the curriculum, now includes additional features and functionality and improves the software’s ability to involve pupils in the assessment and review process.

For many areas of the curriculum such as numeracy, literacy and science, quantitative assessment and planning systems are a vital support tool to ensure children’s learning requirements are highlighted. Such systems however are not appropriate for the creative, music and art areas of the curriculum that combine knowledge and understanding with the encouragement of self expression.

eSAAMS streamlines the capture, management and assessment of such work, while version 3.0 engages pupils in the process for more focused, personalised learning through the use of video and audio recording.

Caroline Clarke, Year 6 teacher and ICT co-ordinator at Chafford Hundred Campus Primary School comments, “For me there are certain subjects that are difficult to record. With eSAAMS you do not have to have a finished product, you can monitor pupils’ progression as they go along, recording snapshots of their work.  In music however, recording a still image of someone playing a saxophone is not very constructive.  With the video function available in version 3.0 the pupils have the opportunity to review their own performance, identify areas for improvement and add their own comments to the record. This self assessment feature has proved wonderful in allowing children to take responsibility for their own development.”

The latest version also offers the ability to set up simple templates before the lesson. Caroline explains, “Previously I had to prepare assessment templates during the lesson.  Now, when I know that I would like to record the group’s performance I can set up the templates and record the lesson objectives and required outcomes. Once the lesson starts it only takes a matter of moments to record their performances.  eSAAMS has become a core product in all the ‘arts’ and performance areas of the curriculum at Chafford Hundred.”

eSAAMS v 2.0 Launch

Counterpoint MTC Ltd is pleased to announce the launch of eSAAMS 2.0. eSAAMS 2.0 provides powerful new tools that allow teachers to record, assess and manage electronic evidence of pupil's work effectively

Regular use of audio and video in the classroom, whether as a tool to assist in teaching or for gathering evidence for monitoring and assessment could be a logistical nightmare. eSAAMS turns this type of activity into a very simple and practical task.

Audio and video can be recorded straight into eSAAMS, marked, commented and stored next to the student's record card. This automatic filing of recordings saves time and facilitates quick retrieval during subsequent lessons.

eSAAMS also allows other electronic student workpieces to be stored against their records, includes an electronic registration system and allows teachers to create their own marking schemes.

eSAAMS can be used on any windows 2000 or XP machine including desktops, laptops and tablet PCs.

Ofsted Recommend Multimedia Recording in Learning and Assessment Practice

"In the best practice, teachers find effective ways to log this evidence of progress, usually by using audio or video recording facilities, or by saving the evidence on a computer disk."

Ofsted's recent report ''Good Assessment Practice in Music' (March 2003) suggests that teachers should find effective ways to log evidence of student progress, using audio and video recordings, or by storing work pieces as computer files. eSAAMS makes capturing work in this way and the subsequent management of files
